Our looting system explained - EPGP
Last update: 3/6/10
Thread for EPGP Discussion is here
Our loot system is called EPGP, and is a points system with a few unique twists. The system has 3 values, EP (effort points), GP (gear points), and PR (priority rating). Your EP is determined by your raiding attendance and success. Your GP is determined by the amount/type of loot you have received. Finally, your PR is an aggregate of the two, EP/GP = PR.
PR will determine who has priority on loot. If you choose to take the item, its GP is added to your GP value (therefore decreasing your PR), allowing the next person in line to move up the list. Upon a tie in PR (and taking minEP into account), /roll will determine the winner.
EP is awarded for many things, mostly boss kills, but the raid leader may award EP for a wide array of things. GP is given when items are taken, either from raid loot (and possibly in the future) from the guild bank. Exact EP and GP (for non-raid loot) values will be listed in a following post.
What makes this system truly unique from other points based systems is that both of your EP and GP decay over time. You can see our current decay rate in the Guild Information panel in game (this will likely change slightly as time passes). This will reduce your EPGP by a set % each time it is decayed. This serves two main purposes:
- EP decay prevents people from building up enough points to simply be "king of the hill", that they pass on loot to remain on the top of the hill. With the decay everyone will eventually catch up.
- GP decay encourages people to take loot early. The sooner you pick up a piece of loot, the sooner the GP decays and the sooner your PR goes back up.
Adjustments to the system will always be done on a Tuesday. This ensures there aren't any partial weeks/raids where inconsistencies in the system may cause issues.
The Addons: EP and GP are stored in each players Officer note in the guild (will be visible to all), and you will be able to install an addon to view everyone's EP,GP, and PR. This will allow you to track everyone's position in the rankings, including yourself. Officers WILL NOT tell you where you stand. It is your responsibility to track this, as we have given you every tool you need. This addon will also add the GP value of every item into its tool tip, so you will be able to understand the weights of each item.
There is an additional module, that will provide a very efficient interface for Need, Greed/Offspec, and Pass options on loot. I'd like everyone to install it, so we can streamline our looting process.

Reasoning / Thoughts / Madness
The EPGP addon rewards 50% of epgp to players that whisper being on standby. If you show up on time, ready to raid and stay in the group ready to jump in, you don't need to whisper every 15 minutes and will collect the full EP bonus.
(special thanks to Koriel over at Fury Untold for letting me steal this excellent explanation of EPGP.
